Lightning on Hodl Hodl
In 2019 we’ve implemented and added Lightning Network support to Hodl Hodl, which allows our users to buy and sell bitcoins on the Lightning network, which made small volume trades instant and cheap.
The first major improvement of 2020 is coming next week. We’re introducing the first step of Hodl Hodl’s redesign: the new look for some of the most crucial parts of our platform, and changes in our platform functionality.
Due to the technical implementation of the new functionality we are removing Lightning Network support from Hodl Hodl, but just for a few months. Below is the list of things that are coming along with our redesign and the explanation for temporary Lightning Network support removal:
- After the redesign both exchange modes — on-chain and Lightning Network — are going to be combined and appear in the same offer list (no switching modes anymore).
- Code, which is used for Lightning network on Hodl Hodl, needs to be refactored and improved. We still have a lot of implementation issues in part due to the novelty of the technology.
- Lightning network is developing and expanding, therefore, we are planning to develop more features on Lightning and we are also considering the option of developing a few separate new projects specifically for the Lightning Network.
- Currently we are looking at the option of making Lightning Network solution non-custodial, matching our non-custodial Bitcoin on-chain trading implementation.
Please be informed that if you had some Lightning offers up, they will be temporarily disabled, and in the following while the redesign and refactoring are in progress, it will not be possible to create Lightning Network offers. If currently have any ongoing Lightning Network contracts on Hodl Hodl, you will be able to complete them without any issues.
